How We Wear it – Volume V

Gina and Julie are back to reprise their roles

in “How We Wear It”.

Gina takes it easy in our "Kate" sandals and "Charlie" Messenger bag in Chocolate!

Gina is keeping it light for the summer with our “Kate” Strappy Flat Sandals which are now being given away as a promotion when you make any Cri de Coeur and/or Hearts of Darkness purchase this month! Yes, you heard us right! We are giving them away for FREE!

Gina proves that you can combine styles old and new by pairing these sandals from our debut collection with one of our most popular styles from our introductory handbag line, the “Charlie” Fold-Over Messenger Bag. Available now for pre-order, this messenger style (shown here in Chocolate) is such a chic accessory you will hardly notice that it is vegan AND eco-friendly! The strap drapes comfortably across the shoulder or can be worn by the handles fashionably on the arm. It holds everything and anything you can possibly need and feels so supple and yummy, you almost want to take a bite! Adding some fringe fun to her outfit (and we love fringe), this tank top tucked into a white mini says, “I’m cool and staying cool” this summer.

Julie in "Melissa" Strappy Zip Front Sandal

Julie compliments this outfit with our “Melissa” Strappy Zip Front Sandals in black! Also from a previous season, it still is as current today. Julie pairs her signature black leggings from Splendid with a white collar shirt that has lots of movement. She lets the shoes handle the make-over of this otherwise ordinary ensemble and leaves the rest to added accessories, like this fun recycled metal cuff bracelet.

We would LOVE to see how YOU wear it! Send us a picture of yourself or a friend in your favorite Cri de Coeur style and we will post it on our site!

E-mail your picture, name and email address. As an incentive, we will give you a 10% discount on your next purchase just for doing so!

Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary

Visitors play with the pigs at the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary

Looking for the perfect gift? How about donating to a charity on their behalf?

Julie’s sister Whitney just had a birthday and since she also recently celebrated a wedding, Julie was feeling uninspired of what to buy her. Whitney’s thought that because of the recent flow of gifts that had come to her and her husband, Whitney insisted that her family not give gifts this year.

Julie and Whitney are both vegan and have been on this journey together, so she knew that if she wouldn’t give her sister something this year, an even better and more meaningful gift would be a donation to one of their favorite charities, Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, in her name.

At the heart of their mission is the hands-on work of rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for farm animal refugees — as well as educating the public about the horrific treatment of animals who are raised in large, industrial factory farm systems. Julie’s gift actually bought her sister a really nice gift membership, with perks, that is delivered in a beautiful card. An email was sent to her with a picture of the little critter her donation sponsors. It just felt good all the way around. And Whitney thought it was such a special gift.

Baby Felix the Lamb

Baby Felix the lamb was headed to slaughter before a kind woman in Bronx, NY, saw him being unloaded into one of the city’s many live-kill markets. Weighing only 12 lbs, little Felix wouldn’t have made much of a meal! But he also wasn’t worth keeping around by the “farmer” due to his handicap — a rear leg that was either torn or chewed off by a predator. It broke this woman’s heart so she quickly offered cash for him.  Once Felix is full-grown, Woodstock Sanctuary will attempt to fit Felix with a leg that helps him live a fuller sheep life.

Right now through the end of July, ALL DONATIONS ARE BEING MATCHED by an anonymous donor! So Julie’s gift had twice the value! What a great time to donate.

It takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to run this sanctuary — about $1,200 a day — and as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization they run entirely on donations from the public and a few private grants. They save so many animals each day!

Sometimes a gift that can do so much good is SO much better than something that could go unused or unwanted. Think about how much we could accomplish if everyone accepted gifts in the form of donations to their favorite charities!

What are some of your favorite charities?

How We Wear It : Volume IV

Here we are again with the fourth installment of “How We Wear It” which we would specifically like to name the….

MAXI vs MINI

Ready to run some errands first at MOOD fabrics and then over to FIT for an Eco exhibit and we both show up wearing the same Cri de Coeur shoes! Yes, this happens more often than we would like to admit, as these minds DO think alike, but we thought we would show you how our Star Strappy Flats can be worn with almost anything!

Julie in one corner sporting the Maxi and Gina in the other wearing the Mini.

Julie would love to be wearing boots and leggings every day of the year, but considering the heat wave, she opted for the Rachel Pally Maxi. The sandals peep through just enough and give her a super laid back, beach-y vibe.

Gina, who is in less denial about the seasons, sports her new Marc Jacobs Mini dress with side zipper detail with her Star Flats. They turn this very hip go-go style shift dress (actually, we think this is supposed to be a shirt!) into a casual day-time outfit.

As you can see by the blurry cell phone pics, this is just a quick glance at a day in the life of the designers at work! So who wins, the Maxi or the Mini? The Star Strappy Sandal says, “it’s a TIE!”

The Eco-Fashion Exhibit : Going Green is going on now through November 13, 2010 at The Museum at FIT in New York City.

Here are some facts that we picked up from the exhibit:

  • The fashion industry employs more than 30 million people worldwide, and many of them do not receive living wages.
  • The United States consumes approximately 84 pounds of textiles per person each year, a figure that continues to increase.
  • About 8,000 chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles. Many of them are irreversibly damaging to people and the environment.
